Strategizing to Mitigate the Misuse of Telecom Networks
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – February 6, 2020 – Shaping the future of trusted communications and a debate about upcoming technologies and trends await visitors at ITEXPO 2020, which takes place February 11-14 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Experts from iconectiv will be taking the stage, focusing on strategies for the reduction of robo-driven spam calling and the best ways to maximize the potential of VoIP.
Spam calls with spoofed caller IDs have reached unprecedented levels in the U.S.—to the point where many people simply refuse to answer their phones. These calls are easily the biggest segment of consumer complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the number continues to climb, with billions of robocalls reported every month. Helping to restore trust in communications is a key priority for the industry as a whole—as well as a critical focus for iconectiv.
Technology has evolved in a way and at a speed that regulators could not predict. Bringing unparalleled knowledge and expertise to the event, iconectiv’s presence will highlight that if technology helped produce the problem, it can also create and lead the solution. One example being the implementation of STIR (Secure Telephone Identity Revisited) and SHAKEN (Signature-based Handling of Asserted information using toKENs)—and a highlight of discussion for ITEXPO attendees.
Panel: Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - 1 PM EST
This session will explore the spoofed robocall epidemic, examining who bears the responsibility for protecting subscribers and how the STIR/SHAKEN framework can help eliminate this growing problem and make it possible to tackle illegal phone number spoofing.
From its leadership role as the Policy Administrator for the Calling Number Verification Service in the United States, which is based on SHAKEN, iconectiv is poised to address the impact of STIR/SHAKEN on the complex ecosystem of stakeholders that includes regulators, service providers and enterprises. Principal Solutions Architect for iconectiv, Gary Richenaker, will discuss the challenges and opportunities of STIR/SHAKEN, as well as the technology that exists to help navigate the process of minimizing illegal robocalls and restoring trust back into communications.
Panel: Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - 12 PM EST
This session will address the challenges of simple, seamless and secure interconnection of networks, devices and applications that service providers—including VoIP providers—face every day. iconectiv’s Theresa Feil Sumpter, PMP, Principal Sales Director, and Bryan Mordecai, Principal Sales Consultant, will share ground-breaking details about the paradigm shift in the VoIP industry and the new opportunities for the ecosystem. The session will also provide an overview of iconectiv and its portfolio, followed by use cases for VoIP leaders.
