Protect Your Customers Against Wangiri One-Ring Scams: Understanding and Implementing the FCC Safe Harbor

What:

“Wangiri” fraud costs service providers $1.82 billion annually, making it one of the top five fraud types. Also known as one-ring scams, wangiri initially targeted consumers but has expanded to businesses, including call centers. In response to the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, the FCC recently confirmed that voice service providers may block calls from numbers that are highly likely to be associated with wangiri without fear of liability.

As part of the Competitive Carriers Association’s “Protect Your Customers from One-Ring Scams: Trusted Tools to Fight Fraud” webinar, iconectiv’s Principal Solutions Engineer, David Estes will explore how iconectiv’s TruNumber Protect gives service providers a simple, seamless and secure way to identify calls from high-risk and unallocated number ranges, and suspicious premium-rate numbers, before they reach customers. TruNumber Protect features a comprehensive database of high-risk and unallocated number ranges, with 245 ISO country codes.

Who:

Estes has more than 20 years of experience in the mobile communications industry. As a wireless industry veteran whose expertise spans data clearing, financial clearing, fraud and roaming, he is responsible for providing technical subject matter expertise for iconectiv’s TruNumber platform—the industry’s most authoritative, consolidated database of information about telephone numbers worldwide.
