PISCATAWAY, N.J., November 14, 2016—iconectiv subsidiary, Telcordia Technologies Chile S.A., announced today that it will add a five a year extension to its contract as the administrative agency for number portability, which has been so successful in Chile and which from this date will include the full or intermodal portability.  After the recently signed agreement, Chileans will be able to continue enjoying the options and convenience offered by the number portability service.

Since granted exclusive rights for number portability in 2011, the Chilean telecommunications industry has experienced dynamic growth.  SUBTEL (Chile's Department of Telecommunications) reported a record high of 318,605 phone numbers in August of 2016. The highest monthly net increase since number portability was introduced in the Latin American country.

With the new and advanced number portability solution, Chilean subscribers can easily transfer their phone numbers between landlines and mobile lines or vice versa, within 24 hours. The function known as full portability is only available in some countries.

"Telcordia Technologies Chile S.A. has provided extraordinary service as a partner since it was introduced for the first time as a number portability provider to Chilean consumers in 2011," stated Pedro Huichalaf, undersecretary of telecommunications of SUBTEL. "Thanks to the latest advances, we have the leading number portability system in Latin American and in much of the world with regard to convenience, protection against fraud and responsiveness in case of emergency."

The extension of number portability in Chile is the second in a series of expected announcements from iconectiv regarding the South American region. iconectiv subsidiaries are currently managing number portability in the main markets of Latin America, including Argentina, Peru, and Mexico.

In the telecommunications industry, number portability refers to the ability of reassigning a user's phone number to another service provider and geographic location.
