ATIS and iconectiv Named to Key Management Roles in the New M2M Registry

WASHINGTON, DC and PISCATAWAY, NJ, July 7, 2015 — ATIS and iconectiv today announced their leadership roles in the development of the new Application Identifier (App-ID) Registry for oneM2M, the global standards initiative for M2M communications and the Internet of Things (“IoT”).

oneM2M has designated ATIS, a oneM2M founding partner, as the initial and sole App-ID Registry Management Authority. In this role, ATIS will oversee the launch of the official oneM2M App-ID Registry to ensure globally unique registered App-IDs are openly available to developers based upon oneM2M specifications. The App-ID Registry will be a critical industry resource given the number of applications and developers in areas such as eHealth and telemedicine, industrial automation, home automation and more—reaching potentially millions of records. The oneM2M Registry will uniquely identify the applications and include supporting information about them. The oneM2M specifications provide an infrastructure that supports oneM2M applications identified by their App-IDs, making interoperability and interconnection of networks and services possible.

ATIS has contracted iconectiv to establish and maintain this Registry and will create the underlying database to support and manage the issuance of unique App-IDs. With the establishment of this Registry, implementation of key security processes can be put in place and App-IDs can be used to streamline oneM2M deployments across service provider and vendor platforms. Clearly defining the oneM2M applications paves the way for interoperability in real time, where everyone involved understands exactly which application is running within their domain(s).

“ATIS sees its role as the oneM2M Management Authority as vital to ensuring oneM2M’s consensus-driven specifications are put into use to enable connectivity for the Internet of
Things,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “This role also potentially lays groundwork for leveraging our registry management capabilities and expanding them to cover a fuller range of M2M and NFV applications.”

“From the development of smart home appliances to environmental controls of a smart city, the oneM2M App-ID Registry provides an opportunity for the world to promote the deployment and adoption of machine communications,” said Rich Marano, iconectiv Executive Vice President. “Through this centralized registry of oneM2M applications, the interaction of services and advancement of analytics can progress significantly through the unique identification of millions of applications.”

The new oneM2M App-ID Registry is targeted for public launch in December 2015.
