Storage Engineer

Responsibilities:

The Storage Engineer’s role takes ownership for handling and maintaining data storage’s engineering process, including networks. Responsibilities include building strategies and planning and implementing solutions for storage and maintenance of data. Applicant needs to have the ability to comprehend our organizational requirements and transform them into viable solutions to support our telecommunications infrastructure. 

This position has the following responsibilities:

 

  • System Data and Database Storage Engineering and Administration - design, configure, develop, integrate, test, implement, document, and support the storage infrastructure for both Lab and Production ecosystems.
  • Responsible for performing patching, upgrading software, and making sure that data is secured.
  • Responsible for storage area network (SAN) management, maintenance, and monitoring.
  • Have the ability to collaborate with different teams to explain requirements and suggest the appropriate storage systems and backup solutions and procedures.
  • Able to build storage systems for information and networks for large enterprises that can cater to thousands of connections at the same time. 
  • Facilitate the designing of the concept and procedure, besides handling resource allotment.
  • Maintain fiber channel switches and SAN arrangements by ensuring that software and firmware are in keeping with the latest needs of an organization. 
  • Work with vendors to replace parts and address any issues with product hardware or software.
  • Research new technologies to find out if they suit our organization’s existing infrastructure. If not, they will build appropriate infrastructure to fit them in.  
  • Set up and maintain documentation of the existing technology and solutions using Operations Design Requirements (ODRs) and Runbooks.
  • Design the concept, process, and handle resource allocation. 
  • Creating data usage and precise performance reports with office applications.
  • Perform maintenance tasks and backup activities to protect data integrity from corrupted information and data theft. 
  • Research new methods to store, access, and keep information in physical and digital locations.
  • Follow strict privacy regulations to prevent data leaks to non-authorized personnel. 
  • Must work well with other engineers to troubleshoot and test data storage features and expectations.
  • Integrate storage metrics with new technologies to increase efficiency and are responsible for the daily administration of storage facilities. 
  • Capacity planning and performance tweaking for storage and backup environments.
  • Handle replication of DR data to make sure that data is recovered, in case of any glitches.
  • Configure and administer performance and massive storage arrays while deploying and configuring SANs. 
  • Upgrade, implement, monitor policies, and procedures to ensure steady storage provisioning, protection of data, and adherence to compliance.
  • Resolve storage issues using NFS, Fiber Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and CIFS protocols. 
  • Administer backup architecture using several solutions.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or similar technical discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience supporting a production environment and working on enterprise solutions.
  • Proven experience working hands-on with big data systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with storage monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery of data systems.
  • Substantial knowledge of different programming or scripting languages – VMware, Linux, Solaris.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications Suite and SharePoint.

  • Ability to go into the NJ office or remote TX facility when needed.
  • US Citizenship required

Additional Skills Preferred:

  • Information Storage and Management Foundation skill certification 
  • Dell Certified Associate storage certification 
  • Minimum 5+ years’ demonstrated experience with Dell PowerStore and XtremeIO storage solutions
  • Familiarity with ITIL standards, Number Portability, Telecommunications is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management.
