A Conversation with CEO Kathy Timko Part Two — The Pillars: What iconectiv Does and Where Trust Lives
With iconectiv recently entering an exciting new chapter, there's no better time to go deeper on where the company is headed and what it means to lead it. In this four-part series, we sit down with CEO Kathy Timko for a candid conversation covering the company's evolution, its core strengths, the opportunities ahead and the leadership philosophy shaping iconectiv 2.0.
Whether you're a long-time partner, a customer or someone simply tracking the future of telecommunications, this series offers an inside look at the company and the people behind it.
How do you define the core pillars of iconectiv's business today?
When I think about what defines iconectiv, it really comes down to five core things.
First is our history. We have a rich, decades-long foundation in telecom that very few organizations can claim. That history isn't just a credential. It's the source of our institutional knowledge, unique expertise and hard-won experience that makes everything else possible.
Second is our engineering talent. The depth of technical capability on this team is genuinely exceptional. These are people who understand the complexity of developing both large and small systems, operating them at scale, and how to leverage the most important technology advances. The team takes pride in getting those things right.
Third is our demonstrated ability to deliver with excellence. In this industry, talk means very little. What matters is performance, and we have a long track record of delivering the services the telecom ecosystem depends on – without fail and at massive scale. And don’t forget security. We deliver secure systems, built and operated in secure environments and continually work to be ahead of the latest industry threats
Fourth is our neutrality. This is something that can't be manufactured. We are trusted by carriers, regulators and partners alike because we don't have a stake in any one outcome. That neutrality is a strategic asset.
And fifth is trust. Everything we've built over the years has earned us a level of trust with this industry that is genuinely rare. Our customers rely on us for things that simply cannot go wrong. That responsibility and the mindset it instills in everyone on the team is something we live by every single day.
iconectiv is best known for running mission-critical infrastructure — number portability, STIR/SHAKEN. How do your foundational strengths carry into where you're evolving next?
Our foundation — decades of expertise, deep customer trust, an ability to execute and an innovative mindset — is the DNA behind everything we do. It's what lets us deliver with excellence and show up as the secure, trusted partner our customers count on. It's the same foundation we apply as we further expand into what the industry needs next.
Take number portability: iconectiv has served as the LNPA for the past eight years, with roots back to the program's inception in the 1990s. We haven't just administered it — we've driven its evolution, and that institutional knowledge positions us to shape what's next as the industry moves further into an IP environment.
STIR/SHAKEN and our role as STI-PA reflect the same model: taking our core strengths in neutral, trusted services delivery and applying them to an emerging challenge — mitigating robocalling and spoofing across more than 2 billion connections daily. It's the same approach we'll bring to the next wave of security, regulatory and technology challenges facing the industry.
Wherever the industry needs a trusted, secure, experienced and leading-edge partner to solve complex problems at scale, iconectiv is the answer.
iconectiv has served as LNPA since 2018. What do you believe to be your biggest accomplishments in this role?
There are several accomplishments I'm particularly proud of since taking on the LNPA role in 2018. From day one, we seamlessly transitioned operations from the previous vendor, executing a highly complex migration without disruption to the industry.
Operational excellence remains one of our greatest strengths. Since launching the new NPAC system, we have consistently exceeded the 99.99% service availability requirement and earned very high industry-leading customer satisfaction ratings. Our Help Desk is regularly recognized for its responsiveness, knowledge, and support, reflecting not only strong technical performance but also the quality of our customer relationships. Ultimately, our success is driven by the entire organization, from Product Engineering and Operations to Account Management, Industry Solutions, Compliance, and the glue that holds it all together in the Program Management Office.
We have consistently kept pace with increasing portability transaction demands while maintaining industry-leading reliability and service availability, reflecting the quality and reliability of our systems, and the strength of our engineering and operations teams.
Perhaps the strongest validation of our performance was the industry's decision to renew iconectiv as the LNPA for a second extended term, reflecting the trust we have earned through consistent execution, deep expertise, and industry leadership. As the industry continues to evolve, we are well positioned to support its future direction and needs.
Trusted communications has moved from a technical concern to a board-level priority for service providers, enterprises, and regulators. How is iconectiv positioned to help solve that challenge at scale?
Trusted communications has always been at the heart of what we do. What sets iconectiv apart is that we understand the pain points of service providers, enterprises and regulators alike. We've been in this business for decades, working hand-in-hand with each of these groups as the telecom industry has evolved.
What we do, we do at scale – not for just a few customers, but for the entire country. Number portability is a service that directly affects service providers' end customers; they trust us to deliver with excellence 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. That trust has been earned through consistent performance over years of operational execution.
Our scalability was proven again in March 2026, when we successfully completed a large LNPA data center transition. This highly complex undertaking was executed without disruption to the industry we serve.
Our customers also know we have the expertise to help them meet the challenges of IP interconnection and robocalling mitigation, leveraging both the NPAC and our role as the STI-PA at scale. When STI-PA launched, we were serving a handful of large service providers. Today that program has grown to more than 2,000 service providers, and we've scaled seamlessly alongside it.
When the industry needs a trusted, neutral partner to tackle these challenges at scale, iconectiv has consistently proven it can deliver.
