iconectiv Perspectives: A Conversation with CEO Kathy Timko Part One — The Moment and the Mandate
With iconectiv recently entering an exciting new chapter, there's no better time to go deeper on where the company is headed and what it means to lead it. In this four-part series, we sit down with CEO Kathy Timko for a candid conversation covering the company's evolution, its core strengths, the opportunities ahead and the leadership philosophy shaping iconectiv 2.0.
Whether you're a long-time partner, a customer or someone simply tracking the future of telecommunications, this series offers an inside look at the company and the people behind it.
You have a long history with iconectiv — going back to your Bellcore days in the 1990s, returning in 2013 to lead the NPAC transition, and now stepping in as CEO. What does this moment feel like, and what made you say yes to leading the company at this particular point in its history?
Taking on the CEO role felt like a great opportunity at the right time, given how long I’ve been connected to the company. My return in 2013 to lead the NPAC transition was already a full-circle moment, and now stepping in as CEO feels like another chapter in a story I genuinely care so much about. So, when the opportunity came, I didn't have to think too hard.
A big part of my decision came down to the people. The team at iconectiv is something rare – not just in terms of raw talent, but in how deeply committed they are to each other and to what we're building together. That kind of culture is hard to find, and it powers the progress of the organization and the business. It is both energizing and humbling to lead.
Our mission is equally compelling. We're not prototyping or creating proofs of concept. We operate at a scale and level of rigor that very few organizations in the world can match: over one billion telephone numbers, 1,500 service providers, and over 13 million messages running through our systems every day. It’s a scale that dwarfs what most other numbering platforms even attempt. Our customers come to us with challenges that require not just technical capability, but also the trust built over decades of delivering quality systems that they can depend on to work – all the time.
With the LNPA as our strong foundation, and the growth of STI-PA and iTRS opening new frontiers, we're expanding what iconectiv means to the telecom industry. We want to keep shaping the future of communications at the highest level, and it’s something I’m excited about playing a part in.
With Koch Equity Development's acquisition of iconectiv in 2025, the company entered a new phase. What does this next chapter for iconectiv mean to you, and what should the market understand is genuinely different about the company today?
The Koch Equity Development acquisition marks a genuinely exciting new chapter, not just for iconectiv as a business, but for what we're able to deliver to the telecom industry over the long term.
What the market should understand is that this isn't a story about disruption or reinvention. iconectiv has decades of history in telecommunications, and we've consistently demonstrated the ability to innovate and deliver with excellence – through deep numbering expertise, a strong security posture and an unwavering focus on our customers at every level. That foundation doesn't change.
Koch Equity Development’s acquisition of iconectiv comes with enormous support and stability for the company, something that matters a lot in an industry like ours, where trust is earned over years and the infrastructure we support has to perform without fail for the long term. Having a stable and committed partner gives us the runway to serve our customers for the long term as well.
What excites me personally is the opportunity to combine that stability with an entrepreneurial mindset. I've led organizations of all sizes – from large enterprises to nimble startups – and there's something powerful about bringing an entrepreneurial energy to a company with iconectiv's stellar reputation and credibility. We have the ability to move with the agility of a growth company while standing on the shoulders of our history and everything we've already built.
How does Koch’s acquisition and this new entrepreneurial spirit inform the priorities you're setting as CEO?
iconectiv is the authoritative source for critical telecom data, with decades of proven engineering, operational excellence and a position of genuine neutrality that can't be built overnight. That's rare, and it's valuable.
The same strengths that make us successful as the LNPA — including our neutrality, our ability to deliver services for regulated programs and our trusted customer relationships — are directly transferable to new initiatives. STI-PA is a clear example.
The idea isn't to reinvent iconectiv. Instead, it's to leverage what we do best and expand from that foundation.
This directly informs my priorities as CEO. Serving our customers with excellence and innovation remains the north star. As such, that means continuing to deepen our core strengths, not just maintain them. Our engineering expertise, our operational discipline, our innovative mindset and our institutional knowledge of how this industry works at scale – these are the assets we grow from. We're focused on expanding deliberately into spaces where our neutrality, scale and expertise create value others can't easily replicate, always anchored by the customer relationships and trust we've built over decades.
If you had to deliver one headline message to employees, customers, and partners about this next chapter, what would it be?
This is an exciting time. We are building upon our foundation to support and enhance the infrastructure and systems of an increasingly connected world, across a range of disciplines and industry needs. Given our talent, entrepreneurial spirit, ingenuity and leadership, it’s a nice position to be in: helping drive and support the evolution of the telecommunications industry while powering trust in modern communications.
