2020 will be the year when the industry begins to stem the tide of robocalls (Reader Forum)
While 2019 was the year the telecom industry and regulators increased their actions to address illegal robocalls with default call blocking and the launch of STIR/SHAKEN, 2020 will be the year that we see how these strategies unfold. By January 2020, the new FCC-endorsed ATIS-SIP Forum SHAKEN framework will be deployed across major U.S. service providers to help mitigate the illegal robocall epidemic and strengthen consumer trust in the callerID information displayed. And the rest of the world will be watching to see how this strategy can be leveraged in their individual markets.

A Black Swan Solution Guide: The Value of an Authoritative Database of Global Telephone Numbers in Fraud Control
What if a Fraud Management System came along that could automatically detect and block 90% of IRSF and Wangiri fraud cases coming through your network — and even make accurate blocking decisions on numbers never-before-seen? Think how productive that FMS could make your fraud analyst team. Well, such a system exists, but it’s not really an FMS. Actually, it’s a database designed to work in tandem with an FMS. And it enhances the value of any FMS or fraud-fighting team that takes advantage of its intelligence.

Telephony Industry Rises to the Challenge of Robocalls, With Legislation, Regulation and Enforcement Close Behind

WASHINGTON, December 13, 2019 – The industry group that is hammering out technical standards governing an anti-robocall framework announced Thursday that that the STIR/SHAKEN framework will launch on Monday, December 16, 2019.

The launch of STIR/SHAKEN calling verification service won’t be final word in ending robocalls. But the much-anticipated milestone does represent a significant achievement for the creation of an entirely new framework governing authenticated telephony.

Industry Solution to Detect, Mitigate and Deter Illegal Robocalling Reaches Important Milestone
The Secure Telephone Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) announced today that the nation's Calling Number Verification Service, which is based on the SHAKEN framework, will launch December 16, 2019. The launch is a critical step forward in mitigating illegal robocalling, the leading cause of consumer complaints to both the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). "Setting SHAKEN into action completes a major milestone in an initiative that brought the industry together through ATIS to find a solution to address the formidable challenge of illegal robocalling," said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller.

Toll-Free Calls to Benefit from Nation’s Robocall Mitigation Efforts
As part of its new policy, the Secure Telephony Identity Governance Authority (STI-GA) has approved iconectiv as a responsible organization (RespOrg), allowing it to verify the identity of the businesses and contact center operators authorized to use toll-free telephone numbers on our RespOrg.
Industry initiatives such as STIR/SHAKEN are rebuilding consumer confidence in voice calls. As a RespOrg, iconectiv now can help verify the identity of the businesses and contact center operators authorized to use toll-free telephone numbers on our RespOrg to help ensure that their outbound calls are not mistakenly flagged as spam.

With Voice and Messaging Communications, Trust is a Two-Way Street
The past few years have demonstrated just how much we depend on our mobile phones – for services, connection and convenience. As a result, digital transformation is gaining significant momentum, and identity verification is becoming more critical than ever. Businesses need to have trust in knowing who their customers are and consumers need to trust that the company that is calling or texting them is indeed who they say they are.
In a recent interview with Mobile World Live, iconectiv Senior Vice President George Cray provided insights on how the industry is working to re-establish trust in the global communications ecosystem and the role that iconectiv plays in pushing digital transformation forward while ensuring service providers comply with regulations.

Do You Take Calls from Numbers You Don’t Recognize? Odds Are, You Don’t
In this day and age, where so many in-person interactions have been replaced with remote engagements, digital transformation has become fundamental. As a result, businesses and consumers are relying on their mobile devices more than ever – utilizing voice and text communications to navigate their personal and professional lives. But with more than 85 billion spam phone calls being placed globally each year – costing trillions of dollars in lost business and productivity – keeping both the voice and messaging ecosystem safe for consumers and attractive to business is critical.
In a recent interview with Mobile World Live, iconectiv CTO Chris Drake answered these questions, and discussed how to further build trust in communications, insights on new solutions to better identify legitimate businesses and more.

How Service Providers are Weeding Out Illegal Robocalls, SMS Spam and Other Fraud Before It Reaches Consumers
Each year, communications service providers (CSPs) worldwide lose over US$39 billion to fraud such as illegal robocalls, SMS phishing (“smishing”) and “wangiri” callback schemes, according to the Communications Fraud Control Association (CFCA) and analyst firms.
During the panel session, “Protect Your Customers from One-Ring Scams: Trusted Tools to Fight Fraud,” iconectiv telecom fraud expert David Estes will discuss how CSPs are upgrading their existing call-blocking analytics to identify calls from high-risk and unallocated number ranges and suspicious premium-rate numbers.

iconectiv Toll-Free-Number Expert Mike Gilbert Elected ATIS SNAC Co-Chair
Years of illegal robocalls, SMS spam and fraud have undermined consumer trust in voice calls and text messages, including those from toll-free numbers. Restoring trust is critical for service providers and all the retailers, schools, healthcare providers and other organizations that depend on toll-free numbers to inform and engage consumers.
As a new co-chair of the ATIS SMS/800 Number Administration Committee (SNAC), iconectiv Senior Account Director Mike Gilbert will oversee key toll-free number industry initiatives such as ensuring consumer trust in voice calls and text messaging.

The Path to Trusted Voice Calls and Text Messages
In an effort to stave off the more than 85 billion illegal robocalls placed each year, as well as SMS phishing (“smishing”) and other fraud, industry players have banded together to keep the voice and messaging ecosystem safe for consumers and attractive to businesses.

Rich Call Data Helps Increase Call Answer Rates, Restores Consumer Trust
This year, consumers will lose $40 billion to fraudulent robocalls. The deluge of illegal robocalls also has conditioned 58 percent of consumers to answer calls only from numbers they recognize. This makes it difficult, expensive and sometimes impossible for hospitals, schools and other legitimate organizations to reach consumers.
At a SIPNOC 2022 panel, Rich Call Data (RCD) Best Practices: Building Trust for Future Success, John Haraburda, Principal Solutions Engineer at iconectiv, will explore how RCD is poised to help increase call-answer rates by providing an enhanced caller ID display that includes a company’s name, logo and call intent.
